چکیده

Computer traffic simulation is important for making new traffic-control strategies. Microscopictraffic simulators can model traffic flow in a realistic manner and are ideal for agent-basedvehicle control. In this paper we describe a model of a reactive agent that is used to control asimulated vehicle. The agent is capable of tactical-level driving and has different driving styles. To ensure fast reaction times, the agent’s driving task is divided in several competing andreactive behaviour rules. The agent is implemented and tested in a prototype traffic simulatorprogram. The simulator consists of an urban environment with multi-lane roads, intersections, traffic lights, light controllers and vehicles. Every vehicle is controlled by a driving agent andall agents have individual behaviour settings. Preliminary experiments have shown that theagents exhibit human-like behaviour ranging from slow and careful to fast and aggressivedriving behaviour.

A Context-aware Architecture for Mental Model Sharing through Semantic Movement in Intelligent Agents

Recent studies in multi-agent systems are paying increasingly more attention to the paradigm of designing intelligent agents with human inspired concepts. One of the main cognitive concepts driving the core of many recent approaches in multi agent systems is shared mental models. In this paper, we propose an architecture for sharing mental models based on a new concept called semantic movement....

An Intelligent Control Strategy in a Parallel Hybrid Vehicle

This paper presents a design procedure for an adaptive power management control strategy based on a driving cycle recognition algorithm. The design goal of the control strategy is to minimize fuel consumption and engine-out NOx, HC and CO emissions on a set of diversified driving schedules. Seven facility-specific drive cycles are considered to represent different driving scenarios. For each fa...

Using Agents to Create Learning Opportunities in a Collaborative Learning Environment

In order to foster situated learning in a virtual community of practice, we developed a multi-user, real-time, 3D car-driving simulation environment. In such a situation-based learning environment, the availability of enough appropriate learning situations is crucial for success. However, we experienced that often a collaborative usage of the system does not result in a large number of these cr...

A Student-Adaptive System for Driving Simulation

Driving simulators have to be student-oriented. We created the Virtual Driving Instructor (VDI), an intelligent tutoring multiagent system, which provides studentadaptivity. The VDI enhances the interaction between the driving simulator and the student. It uses regressive instruction and feedback, which are adapted to the student, presentation context and task, to help the student improving his...

Hierarchical Functional Concepts for Knowledge Transfer among Reinforcement Learning Agents

This article introduces the notions of functional space and concept as a way of knowledge representation and abstraction for Reinforcement Learning agents. These definitions are used as a tool of knowledge transfer among agents. The agents are assumed to be heterogeneous; they have different state spaces but share a same dynamic, reward and action space. In other words, the agents are assumed t...

Experience Management for Multi-agent Supply Chains: Trust, Planning and Negotiation

Supply chain management (SCM) is currently mainly based on older information retrieval methods. It generally has not taken advantage of the ‘dynamic’ information that is now available due to developments in information and communication technology (ICT) and knowledge management (KM). The focus has also changed from a supply-side view of optimizing production efficiency to a demand–side view of ...
